Announcing the Talon Center name and TAMKO partnership

Posted Date: 07/21/26 (08:04 PM)

The Joplin Schools Board of Education has unanimously accepted the “Talon Center” as the official name of the new indoor activity center to be constructed on the campus of Joplin High School. The name was selected by a committee of district volunteers, including staff, students, parents, and community members, and was approved by the Board at a July 21 meeting.

Approved by Joplin voters as part of the April 2026 Eagle Bond, the multipurpose Talon Center will expand opportunities for students across athletics, activities, and academic programs.

Also at the July 21 meeting, the Board approved a multi-year naming rights partnership for the Talon Center with TAMKO Building Products, LLC. Through this 10-year partnership, TAMKO will serve as the facility’s naming sponsor, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing student experiences and strengthening community connections.

“TAMKO has partnered with Joplin Schools on other significant projects, and this next step reflects a shared belief in what our students can achieve when a community comes together around them,” said Superintendent Dr. Kerry Sachetta. “The TAMKO Talon Center will touch many aspects of the student experience, and we’re grateful to work alongside a partner that continues to invest in opportunities that make a lasting difference.”

David Humphreys, Chairman and CEO of TAMKO, and his wife, Debra, are also personally sponsoring the facility’s indoor turf field.

"Joplin has been home to TAMKO for generations, and the Humphreys family and TAMKO believe investing in students is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest in the future of our community," said Mr. Humphreys. "We are honored to partner with Joplin Schools on a facility that will create opportunities for students and serve the community for years to come."

The TAMKO Talon Center is designed to meet a wide range of student needs, providing year-round space for athletics, fine arts, student organizations, summer programming, and wellness activities. The addition will also help address current gym space limitations and allow programs to grow and thrive.

Joplin Schools looks forward to celebrating the impact of this partnership as construction progresses and the vision for the new facility becomes a reality. The TAMKO Talon Center has an anticipated completion date of summer 2028.

The district will continue to offer interior sponsorship opportunities with local partners to encourage community engagement and offset taxpayer costs. To inquire about interior sponsorship opportunities, please contact GinaLangston@JoplinSchools.org.
